Abby and Rimas' Budget
On Going Expenses:
Living Expenses: $10,000/yr
- Household expenses, US physician license fees, obtaining a Honduran residency, ongoing Spanish tutoring
Ministry Retreat: $500/yr
- Round trip travel to World Medical Mission's annual Latin America Missionary Retreat
Vaccinations: $500 (typhoid boosters, tetanus/diphtheria, etc.)
Health Insurance: $2,500/yr
One Time Expenses:
Language School: $2500
- We'll be attending 2 months of full Spanish immersion language school which is quite costly but well worth it to communicate with those who we are called to serve.
Shipping Container: $1000
- We will be able to ship some of our own possessions (furniture, kitchen items, clothing) to cut down on some of the start up costs.
Medical School Loans: $75,000
- We were fortunate to only have to tuition loans and have been consumer debt free. Tuition was $26,000/yr for 4 years. We were able to pay Abby's medical school loans down from $125,000 to $75,000 by putting every penny of Abby's residency salary and moonlighting into it. We had planned to pay it down more when Rimas unexpectedly was laid off. We would loved to have the loan completely paid off before entering the field, however it is not recommended to "stay and work a year" as many people who do, abandoned their plans for missions.
Project Expenses: $10,000
